A major winter storm is set to spread heavy snow and damaging ice across a large portion of the United States over the coming days. Dangerously cold temperatures will only worsen the storm and increase its danger.
Next round of snow showers arrives around dinner time. Right now, snowfall accumulations remain light this evening. Temperatures will be in the lower 30s. With a gusty wind up to 30 mph at times it’ll feel like we’re in the lower 20s.

Polar vortex, snow models used to track impact of possible weekend storm in DC
A storm riding the edge of incoming polar air could bring the D.C. region a meaningful snowfall Sunday, but the exact track will determine whether the region sees a decent storm or misses out entirely.
Timing: This remains unchanged, with snow likely developing either side of sunrise Sunday morning, and continuing through Sunday night. The heaviest snow, with rates to 1 to 2 inches per hour, will likely fall from late Sunday morning through late Sunday afternoon or early evening.
