It’s officially spooky season! 👻 How to grow Borax crystals: Heat your water to boiling. For every 1 cup of hot water you are going to dissolve 1/4 cup of borax to create your crystal solution. Allow your crystal experiment to sit for at least 24 hours. The longer it sits the bigger your crystals will be. ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ #vintageearthllc #reseller #vintagereseller #comethriftwithme #thrift #thrifting #letsgothrifting #thrifthaul #vintage #thriftqueen #thriftstore #thriftstorefinds #thriftfinds #vintage

Collect a pinecones and let's explore the magic of nature with this simple science experiment together! Just drop a pinecone in hot water and watch its shape change right before your eyes. It is so simple yet dazzling! 🤯The scales on a pinecone react to moisture. When it's dry, the scales open up. This is useful for the pinecone because it allows the seeds inside to spread out and grow into new trees. But when it's wet, the scales close back up to protect the seeds. So, when you put a pinecone

Alicea | Rhythm & Whimsy on Instagram: "We made borax crystal ornaments as part of our mineral-themed Advent activities this week. I first saw this activity from @thespacegal a couple years ago, and I’ve wanted to try it ever since. I don’t know what took me so long because it’s really easy and so fun! In a glass jar or metal pot, add 1 cup of borax to 4 cups of boiling water (roughly- I eyeballed it). Stir to dissolve the borax, drop in your shapes, and let them sit for 6+ hours. Then reveal yo

Turn an ordinary pine cone into a glittering relic, like it was left outside during a Christmas morning, kissed by frost, and forgotten just long enough to harden into magic. How to make borax crystal pine cones: Collect a few pine cones and let them fully dry so they open. Fill a heat-safe jar with very hot water. Slowly stir in borax (about 3–4 tablespoons per cup of water) until no more dissolves. Tie a string around the pine cone and suspend it in the solution so it doesn’t touch the sides.

🌲🌧️ Did you know that female pine cones open and close depending on the weather? Putting a pine cone in water is a great way to see this in action! All you need to do is put an open pine cone in a jar of water to see it close or sit it on a radiator or in a warm oven to watch it open! Why does this happen? It’s simply so that the seeds are free to disperse when conditions are best for winds to carry them far and wide which is when it is dry. Wet weather dampens dispersal and so the cone closes

I totally forgot about the Borax trick until the fabulous @livinwithmb reminded me about it! So, of course, I had to give it a go. Crystallized pinecones are so easy, and the kids will love this little experiment. Use 3-4 Tbsp of Borax for every cup of water you use. 1) Bring water to a boil and then add your borax. Stir until it is completely dissolved. 2) Let the water cool down slightly, then add it to a bucket. (I used a 5 gallon bucket because I had a bunch of large pinecones to crystallize

Learning how to grow crystals using borax is a simple way to introduce kids to how a crystal is formed! The crystals are growing on a pipe cleaner shaped like a basket. Our experiment is based on a TWO to ONE RATIO: two parts of hot water and one part Borax. The amount is up to you! Let your kiddo pick and add food dye to experiment with color. | ABCmouse.com Early Learning Academy
